Intimacy with others starts by knowing and accepting oneself, while relationships often provide the spark towards self-exploration and growth. When we lack the proper tools to handle the demands of personal and professional relationships, we may wish to retreat into ourselves and hide from the world.
Therapy can help reduce relationship conflict and promote healthy, positive relationships. In therapy, you learn to honor your emotional responses and communicate your needs more effectively. Attending non-judgmentally to your emotions and needs leads to greater self-awareness and self-acceptance, enabling greater empathy and compassion towards others. Through greater understanding of yourself and others, intimacy grows and relationships deepen.
As a couples and family therapist, I strive to provide a space for clear and open communication while being mindful of emotions and differing needs in the relationships. I work with families and couples of all orientations and meet all my clients with compassionate acceptance.
People often seek help to improve their intimate relationships when communication breaks down and emotions become heated, intense or wounding. Relationship counseling helps you sort through conflicting emotions and needs within a non-judgmental, compassionate setting.
